Last year’s pantomime at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre has won the Pantomime of the Year award.

Dick Whittington was named Pantomime of the Year 2016/17 (750-1500 seats) at the GB Pantomime Awards which were hosted by Christopher Biggins.

Dick Whittington, which starred TV presenter Stephen Mulhern, was co-produced by the Canterbury venue and Evolution Productions, run by Paul Hendy and Emily Wood.

Mr Wood, who also wrote and directed the show, was at the ceremony to receive the award. He said: “It’s a genuine pleasure to produce the pantomime at The Marlowe and it’s a wonderful team effort.

“Over the years, we have built a reputation for strong casting, high production values and genuinely funny shows. The Marlowe Theatre is undoubtably one of the best theatres in the country and we are absolutely thrilled that the pantomime has been recognised with this national award. Our aim is to make this year’s production of Peter Pan even more spectacular!”
