Plans are under way to stage a Game of Thrones festival in Kent next year - with hopes of a number of celebrity guests joining in the fun.

Fans of the hit HBO show are set to swell the crowds of an event - dubbed Throne Fest - which could take place in Herne Bay.

The team behind a host of the town’s big events - including the air show which regularly pulls in thousands of visitors each year - are involved in the event, but it won’t be an official BayPromoTeam event.

Throne Fest is set to feature jousting exhibitions between the main rivals, and even the Iron Throne - not to mention the chance some stars from the show could put in an appearance.

It seems some are already no strangers to Kent - it was reported actress Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, was seen at the Southbeats music festival in the county recently.

Naturally, the organisers are fully expecting fans of the show to turn out in droves, particularly if they decide to dress for the part.

The organisers said it will not be a purely Games of Thrones event, but a reflection of medieval times, but will certainly be learning heavily towards the cult hack and slash show.

Gerald McCarthy from the BayPromoTeam told us: “The Throne Fest is an idea we are exploring for 2018, although do note that this would not be a BayPromoTeam event, but an event some of the team plan on staging independently.

“We would like to bring the sights and sounds of medieval England to Herne Bay with a strong Game of Thrones influence running throughout.

“Ideas for the event include bringing some of the actors from the series to the event, recreating a full jousting tournament in which competing knights will take on the famous fictional houses of Stark versus Lannister from the series, battle re-enactments, replica costumes from the series would be on display, and of course super-fans will be dressing and posing as their favourite characters from the series.

“The famous Iron Throne would be brought in for people to sit on, and other props and even a dragon would form part of the day along with activities relevant from the era.

“These types of popular series celebrations have been going on for a few years now - a recent Con of Thrones took place in America recently and was received well.

“Very early planning at the moment, however with the series being arguably one of the most popular ever made, something fans will definitely not want to miss. This would be a fan-produced event and not endorsed or affiliated in any way to the HBO series of course.”
