A brand new stage production of blockbuster film Dirty Dancing is coming to Dartford later this year.

Dirty dancing - The Classic Story on Stage will return to the UK following two blockbuster West End runs, two hit UK tours, and various international productions.

Set in the summer of 1963, the classic romantic drama tells the story of 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, who is vacationing with her family in the Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents.

She stumbles across an all-night dance party at the staff quarters of her resort and is mesmerised by the raunchy dance moves and the pounding rhythms - and dance instructor Johnny Castle.

Baby becomes Johnny’s leading lady both on stage and off, and her life changes forever.

The show features a number of hit songs, including Hungry Eyes, Hey! Baby, Do You Love Me? and I’ve Had The Time Of My Life.

Lewis Griffiths is set to star as Johnny Castle, while Katie Harland will make her professional theatre debut as Baby Houseman, having graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2015. They will be joined by Carlie Milner, who stars as Penny Johnson.

Mr Griffiths recently starred as Nick Massi on the UK tour of Jersey Boys, and he has also appeared in Ghost, Legally Blonde, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Rent and Whistle Down the Wind.

Dirty Dancing –The Classic Story On Stage originally opened at London’s Aldwych Theatre in 2006 with a record-breaking advance of £15 million, making it the fastest-selling show in West End theatre history.

It went on to become the longest-running show in the Aldwych Theatre’s history and played to over two million people during its five-year run.

The show also became a global smash, with productions staged throughout Europe, the US, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Africa.

The new production, which premiered in Milan in July 2015, will shortly begin a major Italian tour after packing out the 15,000 seat Roman Arena in Verona.

Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage will play at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, between Thursday, September 1 and Saturday, September 10, with tickets priced at £22 to £45.50.
