MLS side New York Red Bulls, home to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, have taken former Charlton winger Lloyd Sam on trial.

The 27-year-old, who spent seven years at Charlton after signing professional terms in 2003, is a free agent after his contract at Leeds United expired this summer.

“Lloyd Sam will be with us for I guess, seven, eight days,” said Red Bulls manager Hans Backe.

The club’s General Manager, Erik Soler, has also commented on the club’s interest in Sam, who has had loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Notts County, among others.

“We know him from earlier, so we know that he has qualities,” he said.

“He’s very good one on one, good left foot, good vision, so he has some assets,” he continued.

“But we have to see if they’re assets that we’re really looking for and that’s something we’ll try to figure out.”
