The area, known as Churchill Place, is at the south of Bromley High Street and stretches from the Churchill Theatre to Ravensbourne Road.

Bromley Council said ‘exciting plans’ had ‘taken a step forward’.

The council is trying to gee up interest from potential investors and said it was looking to create a ‘high quality mixed-use development in the heart of the town centre’.

Council leader Stephen Carr said: “Our vision is taking shape and we are keen to work closely with a development partner to deliver our aspirations to enhance the town with high quality, design led development.

“Churchill Place is integral to our plans for the town centre. This is an exciting phase in our plans to ensure Bromley’s attractiveness as a commercial, vibrant and residential town.”

A Prior Information Notice (PIN), which seeks the views of developers and assesses market interest in the site, has been issued by the council.

The scheme is part of Bromley’s Area Action Plan which also includes a £5 million upgrade to the Pavilion leisure centre in Bromley, with a refurbished gym and a ten pin bowling alley expected in April.

A planning application has also been submitted by Cathedral Group for a mixed use development in Westmoreland Road, to replace the 600 space car park with a cinema, restaurants, shops and homes.

The application will be considered later this year. The Council is also working with developers to bring the old town hall back into use for a hotel and conference centre.
