My journey began 23 years ago, in hospital radio, where I combined presenting with university, while I studied to be a registered nurse.

I subsequently graduated with distinction, but my new commitments meant I had to relinquish my presenting role. My passion for radio, however, remained.

My wife, our daughter, and I relocated to Caister, from our native North West three years ago. Our son was born four months following our move, and I’d started work as a staff nurse at the James Paget.

My wife had struggled with anxiety and depression and her mental health deteriorated following our daughter’s birth.

Sadly, she hit rock bottom following our son’s birth.

Following an urgent referral to the team at Northgate Hospital, my wife was diagnosed with severe postnatal depression and post-partum psychosis.

She needed someone to be with her and our children at all times, so I became their full-time carer.

My wife’s treatment plan saw a gradual improvement, and her keyworker suggested I give her time alone with our children. At the same time, I was working with support worker Eileen Eastaugh-Mascoll and looking at my own long-term goals – and radio sprang to mind.

I completed an advanced radio presentation course at Liverpool’s Radio City and then Eileen spoke to Harbour Radio’s chief executive Nevv Moore.

I knew I wanted to become a part of the amazing team – in Nevv, I saw a kindred spirit.

I now present and over the last 13 months, I’ve worked to make The BIG Drive Home show the best. It’s live and exclusive, from 5-7pm, Monday, Tuesday and Friday – two hours of chat, local news, information, weather, traffic and travel news.

I also have features such as Car Share of the Day and 80s and 90s dance classics. There is a great sense of belonging and camaraderie which runs throughout the Harbour team, with one common denominator: a passion to produce entertaining radio relevant to all sections of the community.
