SIXTEEN people have been arrested and nearly £14,000 worth of drugs seized in a series of raids across north Kent.

A total of 12 raids were carried out by officers from Kent police at addresses across Dartford and Gravesham between May 19 and May 23.

The operation was part of National Drugs Awareness Week, which was aimed at disrupting the supply and use of drugs across the UK.

Chief Inspector Phil Painter, head of the drugs team, said: "This national crackdown on drugs is a great opportunity for us to put an even greater focus and extra resources into targeting those who deal drugs and those who commit crime to feed a habit.

"I would urge anyone who thinks they have information about drugs in their neighbourhood to either contact their neighbourhood policing team or give us a call so we can take action against these people."

Addresses raided in Dartford were in Green Street, Green Road, East Hill, St. Edmund's Road, Bevis Close, Charles Street, Greenhithe and Queen's Gardens. In Gravesham, addresses in College Road, Northfleet, Wrotham Road, Meopham, St. Patrick's Gardens, Dickens Road, Elm Road and Poplar Avenue, Gravesend, were among those targeted.

Arrests were made for possession with intent to supply cannabis, cocaine ecstasy and heroin.

As a result of the raids one man was also arrested for possession of indecent images

Darren Currans, 26, of Bevis Close, Dartford, was charged with possession of heroin and allowing premises to be used for smoking heroin.

He will appear at Dartford Magistrates' Court on June 11.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and cautioned for possession of heroin. Daniel Stringer, 20, of Wrotham Road, Meopham, was charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis and will appear at Dartford Magistrates' Court today.

Christian Sookoo, 23, of Queen's Gardens, Dartford, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply and assault on a police officer. He appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on May 24.

A total of £13,745 worth of drugs was seized and £7,200 worth of cash recovered.
