Detectives are assessing new information in the 19-year-old unsolved murder of teenager Claire Tiltman.
Cliff Tiltman makes an emotional appeal for information exactly 19 year's after his daughter's murderThe news follows an emotional appeal on the anniversary of her death last Wednesday by her dad Cliff Tiltman, 62, of Woodward Terrace, Greenhithe, who spoke from his nursing home bed.
The hunt to find and bring to justice Claire’s killer is being led by cold case detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.
Dartford Grammar School pupil Claire had just turned 16 when she was stabbed in an alleyway just off the busy A226 London Road in Greenhithe on 18 January 1993. She was on her way to visit a friend and not far from home.
Following last week’s anniversary appeal, a number of calls were made to the incident room detailing information which is now being fully investigated and assessed.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Vinson, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “I have always maintained that the killer was a local person and that someone knows who he or she is.
“The breakthrough we need to unlock this case could be just one phone call away – and we have had a number of calls as a result of this latest appeal. I would like to thank everyone who has got in touch and would ask anyone else, who thinks they may have information, however small, to do the same. It would be wonderful to be able to tell Cliff that, after 19 years, we know who is responsible for this dreadful, motiveless crime.”
Speaking from his bed in a nursing home last week, Mr Tiltman said: “It would mean everything to me to find out, after all these years, who did this to Claire.”
