A housing regeneration project will be outlined for Valley Drive

The former Tenants’ Club in Whitehill Lane and existing bedsits in Valley Drive could make way for a new housing project in Gravesham.

Plans for a housing regeneration project could see 200 energy efficient homes and 100 extra homes in the Valley drive area.

Existing homes could be replaced with new homes in a mixture of social housing, first time buyers’ units, a variety of apartments, one and two bedroom houses and retirement units.

“This would be the biggest programme for new council houses for nearly 30 years” claims Tony Pritchard, Gravesham council’s cabinet member for housing.

He added: “Even after taking into account the units which will be demolished, we would still end up with 100 brand new council homes.

“This is an ambitious project but shows that, even in these days of cuts, the council is prioritising the creation of social housing in Gravesham for Gravesham people.”

Existing tenants have been issued with demolition notices, removing the right to buy on existing council tenancies there.

Tenants will be given first refusal on any new homes should the scheme go ahead.

Plans will go before councillors at the housing delivery committee on September 28.
