44 lorry drivers caught breaking the law

An operation to crack down on lorry drivers who break the law has led to 44 vehicles being stopped over three days.

Kent Police borrowed a lorry so officers could see down into lorry cabs and film drivers breaking the law.

All 44 drivers stopped between Tuesday and Thursday this week were ticketed or dealt with. Of those, 10 were using mobile phones while driving, 29 were seat belt offences, one was caught for not having insurance and another was driving while reading a map that was spread over the steering wheel.

This is the second time Kent Police has patrolled the motorways and major roads in an unmarked lorry after a successful first operation in October 2011 when more than 180 lorry drivers were caught breaking the law.
