Ebbsfleet United Football Club suffered a double blow after it was burgled for the second time in just over a week.
The club was left reeling today (20) after staff discovered that five hundred feet of copper wire, which powers half of the clubs’s floodlights and one of the two burger vans, had been cut and stolen.
Chairman Jessica McQueen said: “We can’t believe it. We’re devastated. It’s hard not to take it personally. We are doing pretty well in the league table, and feeling pretty good about things, and then - bump - this happens.”
Staff were due to have a meeting today to discuss whether to hold Saturday’s home game against Southport earlier in the afternoon due to the lack of floodlights.
The blow means the club is looking at a couple thousand pounds worth of loss. This is in addition to the financial losses the club suffered last weekend after an earlier break-in. Last Thursday, the Reporter exclusively revealed how thieves stole three strimmers and a lawn mower from the club and damaged both the garage and learning zone doors.
