Abby and Bethany Williams, 16, were part of an all-girl crew who took to the water for seven days, learning how to haul ropes, hoist sails up the 95ft mast, helm the 48 tonne yacht and take part in the ship’s daily watch.

The yacht was part of a fleet of four chartered by the Guides to give young women a chance to experience life on the ocean.

They sailed between Hartlepool and Holland before heading to Portsmouth.

Bethany said: “We had a lot of fun and I would really like to take up sailing now we’ve completed this adventure.”

Abby added: “It was an amazing experience.”

The trip was coordinated by the Tall Ships Youth Trust.
