A brand new simulation and skills suite has opened at Darent Valley Hospital - taking just 10 months to complete.
It is named after Dr Hasu Patel, Consultant Paediatrician (Retired) and President of the North West Kent Postgraduate Medical Association, who was instrumental in progressing medical education at the hospital.
Simulation training is recognised as one of the essential training methods to help doctors, midwives, nurses and healthcare workers improve clinical skills.
Costing under £200,000, it was funded entirely by grants and donations and was opened on Friday.
Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust chief executive, Ms Susan Acott, said “This facility has real potential to enhance patient safety and ensure future generations of doctors and other healthcare workers develop a solid understanding of the safest medical practice.
“We are committed to ensuring highest standards of care in this NHS Trust and know this development will mean an even better experience for our patients.”
Features include the state-of-the-art Laerdal SimMan 3G mannequin, two obstetric pelvises, for natural deliveries, two neonatal resuscitation mannequins and four birthing simulators.
The simulation experience is captured with live relays to viewing rooms.
