Free-flow technology on Dartford Crossing an “inconvenience”

PUBLISHED: 09:43 14 January 2013 | UPDATED: 09:43 14 January 2013

Free-flow charging on the Dartford Crossing will mean more inconvenience for drivers, according to a campaign group.

Roger Lawson, from the Alliance of British Drivers (ABD), said: “This proposal is simply another tax-raising measure from the government and has nothing to do with improving the road system or reducing congestion as claimed.”

The organisation, which represents motorists in the UK claims free-flow technology will be a “greater hassle” because of a “high risk” of forgetting to pay and incurring a penalty charge.

Mr Lawson continued: “If the toll booths were simply removed, to reduce the congestion they cause, then the benefits to road users would be real instead of imaginary.”

The ABD has launched an e-petition calling for the free-flow charging proposals to be cancelled.
