It will be moving location though due to a short-term premise lease

Earlier reports by the Public and Commercial Services Union suggested that Gravesend’s Jobcentre would be closing, but this has been denied by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

The government confirmed yesterday, July 5, that it will be closing or merging a number of centres, which they claim will save over £140 million a year in money, however, the branch in The Grove, is not one of them.

A spokesperson from DWP, said: “We understand that the union put out a press release saying the Gravesend centre would be closing, however this is wrong. It will be staying exactly the same.

“There is a short-term premises lease on the current location, and we understand that the current building owner wants to do something else with it. But we are attempting to find another premises, and the Jobcentre will not leave the town. It hasn’t been decided where it will be relocated to but we are working on an alternative site.”
