»An all-girl dance troupe wowed judges as they powered their way through to the semi-finals of Sky1 show Got to Dance and the chance to win a £250,000 prize.
Boadicea, led by Rhimes (real name Danielle Lecointe), is a 12-strong group who describe themselves as a “sisterhood” that bring creativity, connection and power to the dance floor.
On Sunday show judges voted the group, which includes Robyn Walker, 19, from Gravesend, through to the next stage but there was disappointment for Dartford-based girl group Juicy, aged seven to nine, who failed to make the grade.
Rhimes, 26, who has been dancing for 10 years, said: “It’s been really exciting and fun for all the girls. They have been nervous but when they get on the dance floor we just let our dancing do the talking.
“We really hope the viewers are enjoying what they see and when it comes to the public vote they are ready to support us.”
The group were put together 18 months ago from girls in London’s hip hop dance scene.
Some have even relocated from Scotland, Dorset and even Luxembourg to fulfill their dream.
‘Dedicated’
“You have to be dedicated, the competition in this show and industry is strong,” she added.
“This show will give them all great exposure and hopefully help them on their way to doing this for a living. We just hope people like what they see.
“We want to be a kink in what is known as the male-orientated realm of hip hop dance.”
The name Boadicea was chosen by Rhimes after the Queen of the British Iceni tribe and represents what they are about –strong females who aren’t afraid to fight as a warriors
Most members are freelance dancers who perform individually all over the country and Europe, so rehearsing a few times a week is not easy.
Speaking after their audition Ashley Banjo, lead dancer and choreographer of Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity, said: “Let me compose myself for a minute. Me, Kimberly and Adam have been waiting for two things – a street dance group to come and kill it and a group of women to come and kill it.
“You killed it and then you chopped it up and brought it back to life. That is my favourite street dance choreography ever on this show. Rhimes you scare me so much.”
Boadicea will perform on Sky1 on Sunday, February 5 at 6pm.
