Gravesend Police guard house as vigilantes take to the streets of Gravesend after rumours circulated concerning the injuries caused to the baby

Kent Police have confirmed that medical professionals have determined there is no evidence of a one-month-old baby from Gravesend being sexually assaulted.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident involving the 31-day-old baby, which took place in Gravesend on December 1 and are looking into the circumstances of other injuries sustained by the baby.
Kent Police can confirm that the two people arrested in relation to the assault of a baby in Gravesend remain on police bail.
Chief Superintendent Neil Jerome said: “This is a very emotive case and the investigation is ongoing.
“The grandparents of the baby are intending to return to their home in Gravesend. Kent Police urge the local community to respect their privacy. I would like to stress that the baby’s grandparents are not and have never been implicated in this investigation.
“The two people currently on bail pending enquiries, will not be returning to the area at this time.”
Tensions ran high amongst local residents after rumours that the baby was sexually assaulted were started on social networking sites. It resulted in police taking to the streets enforce public safety as vigils were held in the area affected.
The baby is currently in foster care.
Administrators for Clinton Cards have announced the Birthdays store in Gravesend will definitely be closed while employees at Dartford and Gravesend Clinton Cards stores wait to hear their fate.
