The father of murdered teenage Harry Potter actor Rob Knox met with young offenders to show them a film he helped produce which highlights the consequences of carrying a knife.

Colin Knox, of Ingress Park, Greenhithe, visited the inmates at Elmley Young Offenders in Sheerness, to show Cold Kiss, a 16-minute film staring Ray Winstone, and speak about the loss of his 18-year-old son, stabbed to death outside Metro Bar in Sidcup in 2008.

“This is the first time we have been given permission to do this,” said Mr Knox, 57, who was accompanied by the film’s director Nirpal Bhogal and producer Aaron Truss on the visit, on October 9.

“These were 18 to 21-year-olds so they’re not kids but you still can reach them. While I spoke I had their complete attention and afterwards every one of them shook my hand and offered their condolences. I’m pretty sure it was a worthwhile exercise.”

Since the death of his son, Mr Knox and his ex-wife Sally founded the Rob Knox Foundation and have become high profile campaigners against knife crime.

Mr Knox met with Children and Families Minister Tim Loughton on October 13 to speak about ministries working in tandem to simultaneously improve education and bring through tougher sentences.

He also used the visit as a chance to angle for a meeting with the Prime Minister.

“I brought it up at the end of the meeting and made sure it was minuted. It will be read out to the Prime Minister and hopefully will jog him to arranging a meeting,” he said.

The film, which premiered in London at the end of last year, focuses on the effects of knife crime on families, and is now available as an extra on the DVD release of the film Shank, which also deals with the street crime culture.

Mr Knox is also lending his voice to Victim Support’s Yes to Peace campaign and will speak at an award ceremony in London tomorrow.
