A charity that provides support to older people living across North West Kent has received £1,000 from the Kent Police Property Fund.

Age UK North West Kent works closely with local authorities, health services, social services and a wealth of other local organisations.

Among the services it provides is a bathing service for those who are not able to bathe at home.

Over 850 baths are carried out each year and staff are now fundraising to create a wet room shower and a specialised bath tub that can lift people in and out. The cost of the project will be around £20,000.

On Tuesday August 8 the charity was presented with a £1,000 donation from Kent Police and the money will go towards upgrading the bathing service.

Aside from this, Age UK North West Kent provides support for people living in the Gravesham, Dartford, and Swanley areas and has day centres in Meadowside, Dartford, and Clarence Row, Gravesend.

It also provides home support, such as a fresh meal delivery service and assistance with DIY and gardening.

Penny Bassett, from Kent Police, said: “Age UK North West Kent does an amazing job for the elderly in the community and their staff have been tirelessly trying to raise funds to have a new up to date bathroom fitted in their centre.

“This enables elderly people, who are not able to bathe at home, to come to the centre and be supervised and helped by the specialised staff.

“I know that this donation will have a positive impact for the people using the service and I am delighted to be able to present them with it.”

The Kent Police Property Fund raises money by selling items that have been seized during police operations.

These items are sold at auction and the proceeds given to charities and local organisations which benefit their communities.
