Strong winds overnight led to a pine tree smashing into a car and part of a house in Dartford early this morning.

Residents in Radzan Close were woken at around 6am to a loud crash.

The tree had smashed some of the windows of the house, and completely covered the car parked outside.

It is understood that nobody was hurt in the incident.

One resident, Mrs Bennett, said: “It’s a massive tree, it must be about 100ft.

“The occupant of the house told me she was just about to leave, and if it had been five minutes later she would have been leaving her front door and getting into the car.”

The fire brigade were called and arrived shortly after.

Winds reached a speed of 90 miles per hour in some areas last night, causing several incidents, and the Dartford crossing was closed at 9pm.
