Man charged six months after Gravesend death smash

A driver has been charged with six offences after a fatal collision in Gravesend.

At 6.41pm on October 24 last year, Kent Police was called to the scene of a crash which was reported to involve a car and a pedestrian in London Road.

Rimantas Karvelis, a 56-year-old man from Lithuania, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital, and died on November 3.

Costica Ciapa, 27, of no fixed address, has been charged with: causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, failing to report a collision, causing death while driving a vehicle unlicensed and causing death while driving a vehicle uninsured.

He will appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 31.
