Russell Scott-Skinner, 31, is just three weeks away from the opening of his inaugural exhibition, displaying his surreal paintings in a show named Distracting the Colour, at the Oxo Gallery, London.

The artist, from London Road, Farningham, began his career as a photographer in Sevenoaks and to show his appreciation spent Monday painting a huge mural on the side of a music store in thanks.

“This community is fantastic and has been so supportive,” he said.

“I have had so many people come up to me while I’ve been painting who are pleased with the work.”

A former High Firs Primary school and St Michael’s Prep school student, Mr Scott-Skinner describes how he begins each work with no plan for the final product.

“I clear my mind and just begin. From a small image I then just grow the theme out,” he said.

“In this way I am able to work completely from my subconcious.”

The exhibition, which is free to the public, runs from July 29 to August 14 and Mr Scott-Skinner plans to appear and work at the gallery regularly throughout to show off his unique style.

A secret auction of one piece of work will also be held to collect funds for anti-bullying charity Beatbullying.
