Celebrities taken back to the Roaring Twenties for a hospice’s charity ball have helped to raise thousands of pounds.

Ellenor’s Orange Ball, inspired by flapper-era novella The Great Gatsby drew in a crowd of more than 150 people, helping to raise money for the palliative care provider, which treats 2,500 people each year.

Among the crowd of fundraisers was TV presenter Charlotte Hawkins, who appeared with her former dance partner, Brendan Cole, just weeks after her exit from Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking after the event, the charity’s patron, said: “The ball was a wonderful way to support this amazing cause, which is so reliant on funding to continue.

“It was a spectacular and sparkly evening and having Brendan there to join me made it extra special.

“A massive thank you as always to those who came or donated prizes.”

This week counters from the charity have revealed the night raised £55,753.

In order to keep running, the hospice, which provides holistic hospice care for children and adults, needs to raise £7million in donations each year.

Claire Cardy, chief executive of Ellenor said: “We all had a fantastic evening and the feedback has been exceptional. We would like to thank all our patrons, guests and everyone who has supported us. Monies raised could fund our new children’s team clinical lead role, which facilitates provision of holistic specialist palliative care, planning, education and support to both patients and families.”

Other guests at the ball included Location, Location, Location presenter Phil Spencer and former England cricket captain, Chris Cowdrey, who acted as auctioneer for the night.

Among the items auctioned off was a week’s stay for eight people in the French Alps, the chance to join Strictly Come Dancing partners Brendan Cole and Charlotte Hawkins for lunch at the Corinthia London and an exclusive out-of-hours VIP tour of the Bond in Motion exhibit at the London Film Museum.
