A Swanley man whose fingerprints were found on a bag filled with balaclavas, gloves, electrical tape and a ‘self-loading’ pistol, has been jailed.

Aaron Martin, 29, of Swanley Lane, is the second man to be jailed after a policed raided a property in the town in July 2015.

During the search, officers found a bag inside a van with items including a Belgian Fabrique Nationale 9mm self-loading pistol, inside.

Following the raid, police arrested a man who later pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition and was sentenced to three and a half years in jail

Police linked Martin to the criminal, and forensic teams found his fingerprints on the outside of the bag, with more of his DNA found on the handles.

Det const Alan Poulton of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: “Martin supplied this pistol and did not care about the danger this weapon posed to the public or the effect it may have had on someone else’s life. I am pleased that we were able to remove this firearm from the streets of Kent.

“Kent Police will not tolerate crime in the county and officers will continue to work hard to crackdown on those who think they are above the law to ensure their actions do not go unpunished.”

Martin was sentenced to five years in prison at the Old Bailey on Friday, April 7.
