»North Kent is proving a hotbed of dance talent as we can reveal another teenage dance troupe member is through to the semi-final of Sky1 show Got To Dance.
Molly Boulding, 17, from Swanscombe, is a member of the hip hop dance crew Unity UK, who are set to perform for the public vote live on Sunday, February 26.
Last week we revealed Boadicea had powered through to the semi-final taking place this Sunday where Robyn Walker, 19, from Gravesend, is set to perform for a place in the final and a £250,000 prize pot.
Dartford-based group Juicy, aged seven to nine, were also on the shortlist but narrowly missed out.
Support
Molly, a Northfleet School for Girls A-level student, said: “It’s been amazing, everyone at school is supporting me, we are training hard but loving every minute of it. Next week we are performing in assembly. The filming, the make-up, it has been so good.
“We just all hope the public like what they see. The judges gave us great comments and three gold stars, but it is down to the public now to carry us through. We have been training loads and keeping up with school. I love dancing and I really want to go all the way.”
To get through to this stage they were selected ahead of thousands of entries for the hit show which see groups audition before being judged by a panel including Diversity choreographer and dance star Ashley Banjo.
She added: “It’s been nerve-wracking but we are determined to push ourselves and show what we can do.”
The teenager joined the group, consisting of 12 members, 18 months ago, although it was formed several years ago and trains in east London.
She previously danced for Goodman’s in Dartford, set up by Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman, from Greenhithe and also taught some members of Juicy.
Muir Tashan, 24, runs the Unity Dance Company, home of series one semi-finalists all-girl crew Unity Youth. This time he has entered his senior crew, which includes himself, plus Athena, Tia, Lydia and Ellice from Unity Youth and seven other members.
A diverse mix of people, their routines are “hardcore, entertaining, energetic and real”, exposing a fun yet gritty side of street dance to the UK.
They entered to show the UK dance and music scene is the best in the world and that you can take negative elements of life such as street crime and violence and turn them into a positive.
n Boadicea will perform on Sky1 on Sunday at 6pm and UNITY UK on Sunday, February 26, at 6pm.
Administrators for Clinton Cards have announced the Birthdays store in Gravesend will definitely be closed while employees at Dartford and Gravesend Clinton Cards stores wait to hear their fate.
