Plans for a village centre including a local supermarket and 250 homes have been approved for Ebbsfleet Garden City.

Bosses gave the green light to schemes across the city on Wednesday night, including a new range of shared ownership properties, which they say will help give people a foot up on to the property ladder.

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation’s planning committee approved plans by Newcrest for a local neighbourhood centre in Castle Hill, providing new retail space and 56 homes.

They include a new supermarket and smaller units for non-food retail, small businesses, a café and a take-away uses in the first new village centre to provide services to local residents.

A new primary school, Cherry Orchard, opens in the area next month and eventually there will be 6,250 homes in three villages in Eastern Quarry.

Social housing provider Clarion was given permission for a further 37 houses and 31 apartments in Castle Hill, all of which will be shared ownership.

And Countryside continues its development at Springhead Park with a further 126 homes including apartments, two, three and four bedroom homes.

Springhead Park will have 800 homes in total, with more than 300 already built. Plans are also progressing for a new primary school on the site.

Paul Spooner, interim chief executive of Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, said: “It’s good to see another 250 homes being approved after a phenomenal 12 months for Ebbsfleet Garden City which saw more than 600 homes under construction.

“Ebbsfleet Garden City provides a wide range of housing, from affordable with shared ownership, helping to give people a good start on the property ladder, to quality family homes, all on London’s doorstep but at a fraction of its price.”
