Flowers bloom in Meopham before the freak cold snap


So when is the first day of spring? Astronomers say it is March 20 or 21 but this snap shows the brief warm spell last week brought the flowers out early.

Astronomy believes the season doesn’t start until the days and nights are equal length, although the dates can fluctuate year on year.

However some meteorologists argue spring begins on March 1, grouping March, April and May together.
