Kent town is named NUMBER ONE for the best place to live and commute into the capital

Swanley has been named the best commuter town for London - while Chatham and Ebbsfleet are named as among the cheapest for those wanting to be within striking distance of the capital.

The towns have been ranked on factors including travel time to London by train, cost of a season tickets, life satisfaction and house prices.

It was compiled by credit comparison sit TotallyMoney.com.

The research found Swanley, near Sevenoaks, to be London’s best commuter town, closely followed by Bushey in Hertfordshire.

Sevenoaks came in seventh with Ashford just outside the top 10 in 12th.

Swanley ranked top with an average house price of £353,854 an annual commute cost of £3,428, a 29-minute journey into the capital and it scored 8.15 out of 10 for life satisfaction.

In the top 10 of the most affordable commuter towns were Chatham, with average house prices of £243,158 and Ebbsfleet at £221,241.
