A young ram is fighting for its life after being found weak and malnourished by animal rescue in Meopham on Sunday.

Wayne May, of Artisan Rare Breeds, discovered the creature in White Post Lane and says it is the worst case of neglect he has ever come across.

He said: “I had him on a drip, but now he’s eating on his own. He still can’t stand up very well, so it’s touch and go whether he’ll survive.”

Less than a year old, it is thought the ram may be an abandoned pet originally bought to graze the owner’s land.

It was an eventful weekend for Wayne who also found a male Swan in the middle of a road in Eynsford.

After he and a vet could see nothing wrong, the animal was released back into the Thames Estuary on Monday.
