Britain’s male 100m sprinters all saw their Olympic Games come to an end this evening in the semi-finals.

Youngster Adam Gemili saw his final hopes dashed as he finished third in his heat, which was won by Jamaican Yohan Blake in a time of 9.85 seconds.

The Barking & Dagenham College student’s time of 10.06 wasn’t enough for the Blackheath & Bromley Harrier to go through as a fastest loser, as the 18-year-old missed out by 0.04 seconds.

“I am disappointed because I have been working really hard with my coach to try and get a good start but I wasn’t there tonight,” said Gemili.

“I am happy with 10.06 though and the little fraction at the start cost me a lot.

“I was immediately behind. I had to try and maintain my form and I came third in the semi-final of the Olympics and that is great.

“I only started the sport properly in January and I am very pleased with how I came here and showed what I can do.

“I can get better and better.”

Dwain Chambers’ Olympic campaign was also brought to an end in a semi-final involving reigning champion Usain Bolt.

Belgrave Harrier Chambers finished in a time of 10.05, but the race was won by Bolt, who eased over the line in a time of 9.87.

“These 10.0’s are getting on my nerves,” joked Chambers.

“I wanted to get to the final but I am just happy to be here.

“I am gutted deep down, but you can’t have it all.

“It was worth all the hard work and heartache to get here, though. Money can’t buy this feeling.”

Meanwhile, James Dasaolu’s Games ended as he came seventh in the first heat of the 100m semi-finals.

The Croydon man’s time of 10.18 in lane nine was not quick enough in a heat that Justin Gatlin won in 9.82, with Asafa Powell in second place.
