F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that he had been approached by an east London company, Intelligent Transport Solutions, regarding staging a race in London.

“This is a firm that happened to be bidding for use of the stadium, not to own it,” Ecclestone told The Daily Telegraph.

“They came up with a scheme whereby Formula One would race around the stadium inside it, outside it.

“They wanted to make sure I would be interested.”

Ecclestone then admitted that he is still interested in holding a race in the capital.

Other bidders for the Olympic Stadium have included West Ham United, the University of East London who are backed by Essex County Cricket Club, Leyton Orient and University College of Football Business.
