Lord Sebastian Coe announced Brands Hatch race track as the final Olympic and Paralympic competition venue this morning.

The chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) was at the West Kingsdown circuit alongside Paralympic cycling champion Rachel Morris, Kent County Council officials and children from The Valence Sports College, Westerham, to celebrate the venue’s nomination to host the Paralympic road cycling, including time trials, road racing and the team relay.

“The Olympics and Paralympics is not simply about London,” he said. “We want to spread the good news and inspirational power of The Games outside London.

“I am really pleased to put the last piece of this complicated jigsaw of 26 Olympic sports and 20 Paralympic disciplines together, more than a year before the Games begin.”

Brands Hatch will see four days of competition from September 5 to 8 featuring 225 athletes competing for 32 medals.

Racing will take place both on the race circuit and on the surrounding roads, to make up a 8km course for the competitors.

Jonathan Plamer, CEO at Brands Hatch, said: “This event will be an absolute highlight of the whole history of Brands Hatch.

“It is a unique occasion.”
