In a sport that is as fickle as bowls, and in which Lady Luck looms large, surprises are almost the norm and we’ve certainly had a few at Potters Resort since the Just World Indoor Bowls championship got under way on Thursday, January 11.
The 21-year-old fashion and textile student from Ipswich was already the reigning champion of the World Indoor Bowls Council (WIBC) at junior and senior level, and she created history last winter when she achieved the British women’s indoor junior and senior singles double.
This afternoon’s final of the World Women’s Matchplay Singles championship at Potters Resort will see the defending champion Ellen Falkner facing a challenge from the 2014 champion and 2015 runner-up Katherine Rednall, after the two finalists eased through in yesterday’s semi finals.
The International Arena at Potters Resort in Hopton-on-Sea came alive when a couple of coach-loads of supporters turned up to cheer on their club-mates, James Rippey and Tony Webb, from Chelmsford and Hitchin respectively.
