Alton Towers offers perfect retreat from London

With the school summer holidays upon us, what better reason to take the family out of London than to visit Alton Towers with the family, which has two new attractions for 2012.

This is one not to miss for fans of the Ice Age series of movies, with Ice Age The 4-D experience coming to the Staffordshire theme park. It comprises 3-D footage from the third movie of the saga with a variety of physical effects including icy blasts, snow and bubbles.

For the older or more daring visitor Nemesis Sub-Terra has come to town. Taking its name from the popular attraction which has been at the park since 1994,

Sub-Terra takes people underground on a physically and psychologically thrilling experience into a darkened chamber. And take my word for it, it’s quite an experience.

If that’s not enough, there’s still plenty to take advantage of for all the family especially if the summer weather stays as seasonal as it is. Be it thrill rides such as Air, Oblivion and Thirteen, gentler attractions like the log flume and the Runaway Mine Train or kids activities such as the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride from the iconic Roald Dahl novel.

Alton Towers is still the daddy of all theme parks and knows how to create a great day out for all the family with rides, shows and exhibitions to make you ask where the day has gone.

Alongside the theme park, families can take the pressure off by visiting the water park or staying overnight in the Alton Towers Hotel. Overnight packages start from £143.50 for a night for a family of four which includes breakfast and entertainment.

Tickets to the park cost £24.30 per person for families with a maximum of two adults.
