The world’s leading exponents in the weird and wonderful sport of Bicycle Polo will do battle as Vigo hosts a leg of the Bike Polo European Cup for the fifth consecutive year.
Taking place at Vigo Rugby Club on June 25 and 26 teams from France, Ireland, Scotland and England are expected to compete for top honours.
Home team the Oakenden Pedallers, who practise at the rugby ground, was first formed from a group of friends living in the area in 2004 and last year they picked up their first draw against the top teams arriving from France.
Gareth Collins, club secretary, said: “Over the four years we have been in the cup we have got better and better. Getting the draw against Sanvic (who won last year’s competition) was a real bonus. The French have a league and play every two weeks so to get to theirnlevel is really something.”
Games will be played on both days between 10am and 4pm.
Spectators are welcome and there is no admission charge.
