Yobs as young as 10-caused havoc at the weekend as they pushed giant snowballs into a busy main road and pelted passing cars, buses and taxis with snowballs.

The scene off Whitehill Lane and Valley Drive, in Gravesend, on Sunday afternoon marred what had been a pleasant day of sledging for young families as angry motorists and residents confronted the gang.

Kent Police, who reported a 60 per cent increase in calls on Sunday compared to the same time last year, attended several times.

Sgt Diane Middlemiss, of Kent Police, said: “By all means have fun with snowballs, but not if it means you hurt or frighten people or damage their property. Do not throw snowballs at people, vehicles, or people’s homes.”

On Monday a motorist had a lucky escape after appearing to slide on black ice and crash into a parked car before overturning near the Harvester Restaurant, Rochester Road, Gravesend, at about 3pm.

Moments later the driver clambered from the car and was taken to Darent Valley Hospital suffering chest pains.
