Professor Richard Jenkyns, chair of the Jane Austen Society will present the lecture

English novellist Jane Austen would be 241 this December.

St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Tonbridge, where her grandparents are buried, are celebrating her birthday, for a fifth year.

Professor Richard Jenkyns, chair of the Jane Austen Society, will present a lecture at the church.

Professor Jenkyns was formerly a professor of classical tradition at the University of Oxford and fellow of Lady Margaret Hall. He has published works mostly on classical influence on the Victorian age, on Latin poetry and Roman cultural history. He also penned A Fine Brush on Ivory: an appreciation of Jane Austen.

The event will take place at the church on December 14.

Tickets are £5 and include the lecture, tea and cake.
