The sound of America’s deep south comes to Gravesend on Thursday, as the man in black is remembered on The Woodville stage.

Clive John’s Johnny Cash Roadshow promises hits such as Ring of Fire, A Boy Named Sue and Jackson - complete with his very own June Carter, played by Jill Schoonjans.

Considered the UK’s number one Johnny Cash tribute act, Clive’s affection for Cash’s music stems from the loss of a close friend.

He said: “My friend died about nine years ago, but just before he gave me a Johnny Cash CD and said these songs would suit you.

“After he died I felt it was almost my duty to carry it on.”

The show has received praise from Cash’s own granddaughter, who gave Clive the surprise of his life when she unexpectedly turned up at a gig in Manchester.

He added: “Before the show my manager came down and said there’s a woman here claiming to be a relative of Johnny Cash, can she come in?

“I thought it was a bit far fetched, but thought I better let her in just in case. She’s emailed me since saying she loved the show.”
