A 20-year-old man has been found guilty of raping a 78-year-old woman at her home in Gravesend.

It took a jury just 10 minutes to find Joe Street, formerly of Jenkins’ Dale, Chatham, guilty of the offence.

On June 14 this year, Street knocked on the victim’s door after having drunk 13 cans of lager.

He started chatting with her but his conversation became explicit and he pinned her down and assaulting her.

After the attack he left the house and the woman phoned the police.

Street is due to be sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on December 21.

Det Con Zoe Traynor said: “The victim is a remarkable lady, who, despite being subjected to such a horrific crime, has remained strong, brave and shown no anger. I hope this sentence will help the victim move forward with her life.”
