A 55-year-old man from Northfleet who was seen discharging a taser disguised as a torch has been jailed for five years.

Simon Grix, Dene Holme Road, pleaded guilty to possessing the weapon and was sentenced on January 6.

Locals saw Grix firing the device at a bus stop in Garrick Street on November 8 last year.

PC Sarah Russell said: “Grix’s actions were reckless and caused alarm to a number of people in the area.

“There is no good reason for any member of the public to carry a taser, or any other offensive weapon.

“Anyone found in possession of one will be brought to justice.”
