A DETAILED public consultation on proposals to create an outdoor activity and cycling park on a former A2 site is to take place.
Plans for the 30 hectare area include a public park, 20 km of specialist BMX and mountain bike routes, a park and ride service and a bridleway.
The first exhibition is expected to be held at the Miskin Hall, Hever Court Road, Gravesend today from 3 until 8pm.
Another four exhibitions will be held over the next two days.
Laurence Tricker is the Green Grid Manager for Kent Thameside, an initiative funded by the Department of Communities and Local government to invest in new and improved green space in north Kent.
He said: "The changes to the A2 provide a great opportunity to preserve green space in the borough and create a public park and off-road pedal cycling facility for people of all ages and abilities.
"We are certainly encouraged by the level of support so far, but these proposals are very much an outline and as part of an ongoing programme of consultation we will be staging exhibitions where the local community can drop in to look at and discuss proposals as the plans develop."
Plans are being developed following a Highways Agency improvement scheme, which moved the A2 to a new location between Pepperhill Junction and Marling Cross.
In February 2008 a series of exhibitions were held around Gravesend revealing a masterplan for the area.
A questionnaire showed that 84 per cent of residents supported an Outdoor Activity and Cycling Centre, with 69 per cent in support of the park and ride proposals.
Following these events and other future consultation, works could begin in 2009 and the park could be completed ready for public use in 2012
The other meetings are due to be held at Painters Ash School, Masefield Road, Northfleet tomorrow from 3 until 8pm and on Saturday from 10am until 1pm, St Georges School, Meadow Road, Gravesend from 10am until 1pm on Saturday and Marling Cross Library, Mackenzie Way, Gravesend from 2 until 4pm
