Organisers are encouraging all members of the community to come together
Members of all of Gravesham’s diverse communities are being encouraged to come and break the Ramadan fast at this weekend’s Eid celebrations.
Held in the Community Square, the celebration is hoped to bring residents together and is set to include a number of activities as members of the Muslim faith share food and soft drinks.
Gurvinder Sandher, from the Kent Equality Cohesion Council, said: “In light of the recent terrorist atrocities I think it is more important than ever for all communities to stand together united and say these attacks will not affect our way of life.
“We have a good fun day planned and there will be donations of free food and drink for all those who attend regardless of faith, so I would urge as many people as possible to come and join us on Community Square on July 1.”
Cabinet Member for community development, Gurjit Bains, said: “We have a very diverse community here in Gravesham and cohesion and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Events like the Eid celebration will help to further build upon the positive links the borough has with our vibrant communities.”
Celebrations will last from 2pm until 4pm.
