One of America’s most wanted fugitive Sean Lopes was working in Sainsbury’s in Northfleet, it has emerged.

Sean Lopes, 47, is wanted in the USA for the attempted murder and kidnap of a 22-year-old woman in New York in June 2004.

He was arrested by armed officers in Chatham on Monday after a member of the public raised concerns about him to Kent Police. He skipped bail in 2005 and in his absence was given a 15-year jail sentence.

Lopes is in line to be extradited to serve the sentence once a warrant has been obtained.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson has confirmed he worked at the Pepper Hill store but would not say what position he held.

Lopes appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to appear at the same court this coming Tuesday (May 14).
