THE father of singer Amy Winehouse is planning to follow in her pop-star footsteps.

Mitch Winehouse, from Greenhithe, is hoping to record an album of Frank Sinatra covers, as well as a couple of his own tunes, to be released in March next year.

The 58-year-old told reporters his style is "Sinatra-ish," revealing he would be covering six of the Rat Pack legend's hits.

Speaking after recording two of his new songs, Mr Winehouse said he had always enjoyed singing and for years had discussed with his daughter the possibility of recording.

He also credited her with giving him the platform to launch his career, saying: "If Amy wasn't my daughter I wouldn't be given this opportunity."

A number of the tracks are composed by songwriter Tony Hiller, who Mr Winehouse described as the "Cole Porter of British music."

The taxi-driver has frequently spoken out about his daughter's headline-grabbing behaviour, and has his own show, Mitch Winehouse's Showbiz Rant, on online television show Liv. Launched on November 2, it features the outspoken dad interviewing celebrities as he drives them in his cab.

Amy, 26, is in the process of recording her third album.
