THE chairman of the first Arts Festival in the borough has praised the five week-long event and announced plans to repeat it next year.
Organised by the Gravesham Arts Council, the festival included a huge range of attractions running from October 24 to November 29.
A full review meeting is yet to be held but chairman Sandra Soder is confident it will be repeated after this year's response.
She said: "Overall it was pretty successful.
Various members of the groups involved have reported that they attracted new and different people and it helped to let people know of the kinds of things that are going on in Gravesham."
Beginning with one-women play, The Sixth Wife, performed by Alison Neil, the festival featured art exhibitions by Meopham Art Group, Medway and Chalk Art Group and Gravesend Art Group. Musical performances from local bands and ensembles finished with a historical display at Gravesend Library.
Mrs Soder explained that many of the events had been organised independently but were advertised as part of the festival to increase publicity and reach out to new audiences.
Organised for the autumn so as not to clash with a busy summer schedule, Mrs Soder said she expected it would be repeated next year, adding: "The whole point is to get it at a time of year when there is not as much going on, and people aren't going to have distractions like holidays.
"I have been very pleased with the feedback I have been given next year and would expect it to be organised for the same time next year, when hopefully it can be even bigger and better.
