Beating the bounds in Gravesham set for October weekend

PUBLISHED: 13:20 07 September 2012

The ancient tradition of “Beating the Bounds” will take place over the weekend of October 6 and 7.

The custom involves the community walking the boundaries of the local parish or borough.

The Gravesham borough perimeter is about 35 miles, with approximately six miles going along the river Thames.

On Saturday 6 October walkers cover nearly 18 miles, and on Sunday 7 October just over 11 miles.

The walk is usually sponsored and this year the Mayor is supporting EllenorLions Hospice and the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Services in Gravesend.
