Bluewater shopping centre took part in Earth Hour by switching all non-necessary lights off at the huge mall from 8.30pm to 10pm on March 23.

The international event was organised by WWF to raise awareness of climate change.

It implemented a virtual black-out, saving 4,000kw of energy, which is equivalent to boiling over 80,000 kettles.

Bluewater has installed LED lighting and its 3,000m2 bio-diverse roof harvests rainwater and is home to a large number of flora and fauna.
