Body pulled from Gravesend water identified as Nathan Lane

A body found in the Thames near Gravesend has been identified as missing man Nathan Lane.

The 28-year-old dived into the river at Gravesend Promenade to try and save a drowning girl on Sunday, July 14.

London Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre responded to reports of two people struggling in the water. A lifeboat was sent out from Gravesend to the scene, and four members of the public rushed to help Nathan and the girl.

She was rescued safely, but Nathan disappeared under the water. Five other people who jumped in trying to save the girl also left the water safely.

A body was recovered from the water on Wednesday, July 17.
