Bricknell at the double as Ebbsfleet continue good form

Two more goals from Billy Bricknell continued his, and Ebbsfleet United’s excellent pre-season form.

They beat Erith and Belvedere 3-1 at Stonebridge Road last night (Tuesday) as the clock ticks down to the start of the Conference South season.

Bricknell was involved in the first goal as he forced a defender into a mistake, Anthony Cook picking up the loose ball and finishing comfortably from the edge of the penalty area.

Ebbsfleet dominated the first-half and doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Daryl McMahon’s shot hit the crossbar and Bricknell, one of many players signed from Dover in the summer, tapped in the rebound.

Bricknell clinched the victory nine minutes into the second-half with an excellent goal. He timed his run to beat the offside trap and chipped Deres keeper Jack Bradshaw from range.

He has now scored five goals in his last four games and he is sure to be a threat in the Conference South next season.

George Benner pulled a goal back when he beat Preston Edwards from close range but it was another encouraging performance for Ebbsfleet.

Manager Steve Brown has one more opportunity to tinker before the real thing starts against Havant and Waterlooville - against a Brighton and Hove Albion XI on Saturday (August 10).
