Billy Bricknell’s double helped Ebbsfleet end their wait for a first Conference South win of the season at Dorchester Town.

Fleet won 3-1 to move up to 11th in the table as Bricknell scored his first competitive goals since a summer move from Dover Athletic.

New manager Steve Brown will be relieved after an inconsistent start saw them draw three and lose at rivals Dover in their opening four games.

Ebbsfleet started brightly and Bricknell had already gone close when he converted Anthony Cook’s pass to make it 1-0 seven minutes before half-time. Daryl McMahon and Joe Howe were denied by Dorchester goalkeeper Aaron Walker-Harris before the break but Cook did double the lead just before the hour mark to put the visitors firmly in control.

Ben Watson gave Dorchester hope on 66 minutes but Michael Thalassitis missed the chance to make the points safe when his penalty was saved by substitute goalkeeper Tim Sandercombe.

Walker-Harris had been sent off in giving away the penalty.

Bricknell did clinch the win with 12 minutes remaining, punishing hesitant defending from the home side, and they finished with nine men after Charlie Clough was dismissed.

Non-league day on Saturday sees Fleet welcome Bath City to Stonebridge Road. Kick-off is at 3pm.
